Hello and welcome to the University of New Haven's College of Business. My name is Jason Chung, and I'm an Assistant Professor of Sport Management here, as well as serving as the Executive Director of eSports. It's my pleasure today to inform you about our exciting eSports program offerings. Firstly, a little more about what we're doing here. At UNH, we're the first AACSB-accredited College of Business establishing degree programs with were to eSports business. What does that mean? That means our programs are rigorous, challenging, and employer-friendly, and that we actively cultivate relationships with employers throughout the industry.
In line with the university's founding ethos, this allows us to be highly experiential, with pioneering practicums available at real-world partner businesses such as hyper X and Foxwoods. Regardless of what flavor of eSports education you pursue at the University of New Haven, these values are common throughout your education here. So what are the offerings we have? We have a BS in Business Management with a concentration in eSports Management, a BS in eSports and Gaming with available concentrations, and an MS and eSports Business.
The first is a BS in Business Management with a concentration in eSports Management. students choosing this major in concentration will benefit from receiving a rigorous business education supplemented by concentration courses that are tailored to helping you signal to employers your familiarity with eSports concepts, business practices, and your ability to execute on eSports business projects. As part of your education, you'll take a broad spectrum of courses from disciplines throughout the college of business including accounting, business law, economics, finance, management, and sport management, along with your eSports required courses, electives, and practical to really prepare you to be a contributing employee from day one and a future leader in eSports later down the line.
That education will start early. For instance, some incoming students in this program will have the opportunity this summer COVID-19 permitting, to work on a business case for Hyper X, a large gaming peripheral manufacturer and travel to Orange County, California for a week to present potential solutions and ideas to Hyper X's senior leadership as well as engage in job shadowing and mentorship. Oh, and this is a sponsored opportunity so that means that students will earn credits without having to pay costs related to the program, transportation, room, and board.
What sort of careers are available to you after this degree? Well, naturally, you'll be well-positioned to take business positions directly in Esports organizations, either at our partner organizations or throughout our broad ever expanding industry network. But as you'll also learn, there are so many other businesses from traditional industries looking to reach Gen Z consumers through the authenticity provided by eSports. And you'll find that your strong management skills and familiarity with the eSports industry is valued there as well. After all, companies like Toyota, Hep C, Gillette, and GEICO aren't heavy sponsors of the industry just out of the goodness of their hearts. They're there because it's good business and you'll be well-positioned to help them figure out how to maximize their investment in eSports going forward.
The second degree is our B in eSports and gaming. This is a truly interdisciplinary degree that is housed at the College of Business and has involvement from several other colleges at the University, including the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Health Sciences, and the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences. In this program, students will take a holistic view of the eSports and gaming industries in order to explore the multitude of career options available to you, as well as provide you with the skills necessary for you to excel in your chosen focus area.
As part of the degree, you can choose to follow the general curriculum, or pursue concentrations based on your interests. Concentrations are available in the following areas eSports performance in health, corruption, gambling, and game studies, and each of these concentrations will allow you to take a deeper dive into particular aspects of eSports and gaming. This degree will prepare you to engage with an industry sector of your choosing from working with game publishers to working with health professionals to craft policies on athlete health and safety to collaborating with event organizers to ensure competition integrity, there is no limit to what can be achieved by having such a well-rounded education that fits your interests long term.
Finally, at the graduate level I'm currently working to put together an MS degree in eSports Business which brings academics such as myself, together with industry leaders to deliver an online degree program that provides graduate level students with additional directed hands-on learning where students learn by tackling real-life issues and business cases.
Now, the common hallmark of each of these degree programs is that they mix together theory with practice. Not only will our courses teach about how to tackle an issue, they will also provide you with a spacea triada solution, whether through class based exercises or practicums with external partners. Additionally, you'll have a space -- a physical space -- to call your own, with at least some of your education delivered at The Stable, our new 1,300 sq. foot state-of-the-art eSports Team Training center attached to the new Progamming Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation.
There, you'll get to do things like test firsthand why certain games work better than others as eSports innovate new ways to make eSports more compelling visual spectacle, and view and critique existing eSports advertising. Additionally, you'll have the space and encouragement to double down on eSports outside of the classroom with a chance to try out for our varsity team or join our burgeoning eSports and gaming clubs. From casual to hardcore gamers we have the community support you both work and play.
We're striving to be the number one academic program relating to eSports business in the country. In order to do so we've created the necessary curriculum [and] partnerships necessary to make the program a success. But we can't do it without committed students to make our programs a success. First, what is success? A commitment to academics is important. But it's not the only thing. For us to be the best, we need a vibrant and engaged community willing to work hard to be inclusive, dynamic, and open to new ideas. You will be our partner in speaking the University of New Haven the first part that the eSports industry looks to when seeking highly competent graduates into employees. Frankly, I can't wait to get started. And if you have any questions, please reach out to me at jchung@newhaven.edu Thank you.
