Hello, my name is Dr. J. Donald Joe and I'm an Associate Professor at the Pompea College of Business. I also serve as the Chair of the Sport Management department. I will talk to you about our degree program in Sport Management today and we'll tie that into how the industry is growing in some of the things that I've students accomplish along the years.
Why a degree in Sport Management? The industry is growing and we will look right into that in the next slide with the numbers and which aspects of the industry is growing more so. In addition to that, it is important to recognize sport industry has unique aspects that are not replicated or present in any of the other industries. So this makes our degree valuable for the students who are interested in working in the sport industry.
Which parts of the industry is growing? Looking at the bullet points on the left-hand side some of the items are listed in blue with the asterisk, and those are the areas that is growing more so than the other pieces. However, it is important to recognize in this slide, the sport industry has a variety of segments and there are jobs at every functional level as well so that the industry is very diverse.
And there are a lot of different ways to enter the industry or find occupations and employment for students. Let's take a look at that a little bit closely in the next slide. Here my purpose of including this slide is to showcase there are jobs at the league level the franchise level, but similarly, when you look at the middle piece, you realize that there are jobs at the governing bodies, whether it is national or international level, and these are trickling down to the regionals and national and even the local space.
Right? So with that said, there are plenty different jobs through different organizations at various levels. And these are definitely complemented with marketing agencies, venue operations, management, apparel, media aspects, data, bedding, etc. So there are once again, well a variety of opportunities for students to pursue at the within the industry. So what do we offer? We do have several programs at the university on Sport Management.
Our main focus will be on the Bachelor of Science in Sport Management. But again, we also have a Bachelor of Science in Management with a concentration in Sport Management. Likewise, there is a Business-- Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics with a concentration in Sport Management as well. So the students have opportunities to pursue a variety of degrees and tie it to the sport industry as well.
Let's take a look at our Bachelor of Science in Sport Management degree. And one thing I want to emphasize through this slide, this is a Business degree. So when you look at the right hand side on the box you recognize students will be going through the business war as any other major in within the business college here at the university.
Right, so you are definitely taking your micro-- macroeconomics, two of your accounting courses, finance courses management, ethics, policy, marketing, operations, management, etc. Right? So regardless of which major you're in, if you're a College of Business student, these are the core courses you are taking. And it is no different for our Sport Management majors. So essentially, the emphasis is on this is a Business degree.
On the left-hand side, you do see the required courses for our undergraduate degree and we condensed this recently so there are photos of eight courses, one being an internship and mostly hitting on to the main functional areas of the sport industry. With that said we formed new focus areas for students to pursue and each of these requires 12 credits. However, if a student is not sure of which focus area they want to lean in, they can mix and match as well. And faculty, us, we serve as the advisors to the students. With that said we are with a student every step of the way, trying to support their decision-making and exploration.
Outside of this it still provides 14 credits of electives to the students and we are trying to utilize these for an additional minor possibly depending on again the student's interest and needs. In this slide, we are looking at various focus areas of the forum. As you will notice, these are neatly tied into the growth areas of the sport industry. We have a marketing space, we have media and technology, collegiate and professional front office operations, and business development and sales. These are very hot areas in the industry and we tied our course offerings into these growth areas to prepare our students with hard skills for the industry.
In addition to what we do in the classroom to coursework in curriculum it is important to recognize the extensive professional development opportunities we're providing to the students. We do have a mentorship program, we pair our strong students with industry professionals from the areas that they are trying to lean into. We do have an executive in-residence program that brings a high-level C-suite executive to a campus for a year in various opportunities to mingle with the students. We certainly have internships available through the geographic area, but we also tap into our alumni base and support our students in various geographic locations. We organize panel discussions, guest speakers, career fairs, take students to field trips, and so on and so forth.
Our courses often also include some hands-on projects. So with that said, we have incorporated two hands-on projects to our courses this academic year. So we are working we worked with UEG which is a marketing agency in the fall, we are working with Octagon with for our media rights scores, this spring, and they are really focused on the upcoming NBA media rights deal. And students are trying to engage and how they would go about negotiating those media rights deals.
And also finally ours are marketing course is working with Hartford Athletic, which is a professional soccer team in the state of Connecticut, and they are preparing marketing pitches for the organization. Moving on, related to the opportunities we present to our students. As you know, some of our students participated in a ticket sales competition. This is a nationwide competition this year, at the qualifiers as an institution, we ranked sixth in the nation. And similarly, we entered a group of students to the corporate partnership competition where we ranked number one in the nation, and our students will be competing at the National Championship at the end of this February.
Moving on, quickly peaking at where do our students go upon graduation? I think the slide itself speaks sufficiently to the success of our alumni base. And we are so proud of everything that our students have accomplished and how willing they are to give back to our current students and future students as well. We'll be happy to speak to you about every single individual who is working in these institutions. Please come join us in accepted student aid.
And finally, why should you choose the University of New Haven for a Sport Management degree? We have an innovative business curriculum with real-world projects. We do have internship opportunities in the geographic region. We are dedicated to the professional development of our students and present a variety of opportunities consistently. The faculty in the program have wide-ranging industry experience and their own network. And we often expand these networks to our students as well. And we have an extensive alumni network who are well connected with our students and the faculty and so willing to give back to the program. So with that said, I will invite you to one of our upcoming Acceptance Student Days and hope to speak with you there. Thank you.
