Hello, future Chargers and parents. Welcome to our open house and information session. My name is Mariama Yakubu and I serve as the Program Coordinator for Homeland Security and Emergency Management. If you're looking around for programs like this, you realize that ours is unique and up-to-date. In fact, our program has been ranked as one of the best by Intelligent and Independent College Rating System.
I am proud of our faculty because our faculty is one of the few programs around the country where you have both practitioners as well as doctorate or terminal degree backgrounds such as myself. So with these two combinations, you learn both if you're looking at furthering, going into Masters or Doctorate degrees, you have the faculty that will guide you to do that, as well as if you're looking at going into purely hands-on practitioner well then you have the faculty.
Our practitioner background faculty come to the classroom with tremendous amounts of experience from floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, as well as the current pandemic. In fact, it will interest you to know that some of the decisions being made with the current pandemic is made by some of our faculty.
Aside from that, we have faculty with backgrounds such as from the Intelligence Officers from the Coast Guard, FBI Agents, Emergency Management Directors, Fire Chiefs, business professionals, also help me bring hands-on face time experiences into the classroom.
They will challenge you to challenge you with these experiences and will let you think, imagine that you are facing the real deal, and have to make decisions on your toes. Some of the courses you're going to learn include Introduction to Homeland Security, Maritime Security, Infrastructure Protection, as well as courses related to Emergency Management such as Disaster Recovery, Breaking the Disaster Cycle, Economics of Disasters, and Introduction to Emergency Management.
We also have in our curriculum, an internship program that will give you more hands-on experience setting you apart in the job market or putting you ahead in the job market. You will agree with me it is fair to say that with our increasingly interrupting with nature and trying to tame it, we are more likely to face disasters, increasing more diversity looking into the future. So what does this mean?
It means job market for our graduates, right? We also have programs on campus such as the Living Learning Community, so please look out for more information on that as well as our Annual Fire Science and Emergency Management exercise here on campus.
Lastly, I will encourage you to feel free to reach out to me with any questions that you may have concerning the program, more information, or the courses. And so any question that you may think if you choose the University of New Haven and our program in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, I promise you that you won't regret it-- you will be happy you did. So once again, I wish you the best in this decision which is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your lifetime. So hope to see you soon and wish you all the best.
