Hi, and welcome to the University of New Haven Paramedicine program part of the School of Health Sciences. I'm lucky to meet Joe Soto. Joe is our Program Director for the Paramedicine program. One of Joe's specialties is his ability to integrate high-fidelity simulation and virtual reality into our educational programs. Joe recently converted our entire program into a new facility at One Care Lane, along with other health science programs. Kristen Jetson is our assistant program director, Kirsten is an experienced Paramedic and brings to the students a unique ability to not only teach the skill but the why behind the skill.
Our program is a clinically intensive major focused on the core competencies in pre-hospital health care. Our students take over 70 credits, directly in Paramedicine. They complete 700 hours of clinical rotations in hospital settings. Our hospitals rotations are done in the facility. So the Hartford Healthcare System. We have high-fidelity simulation labs located at One Care Lane and a strong career placement. Because our Paramedic students get to show their skills in many different work environments. Career outlook for our Paramedics as good a 7% growth rate in jobs in Emergency Medical Services is expected. By 2031, greater numbers of elderly, rising incidence of accidents, natural disasters, pandemics, and violence are all expected to create many more medical emergencies and the need for highly trained Paramedics.
Some of our students participate in the EMS Club, the Emergency Medical Services Club, which provides a medical response on the West Haven campus standby at campus events such as football games, and even teaching other students how to perform CPR and stop the bleed. So why Paramedicine at the University of New Haven? Well, our students come to us and if they're not already an EMT, in the first year we help them become an EMT. You complete core curriculum classes for the Bachelor's degree, you become immersed in the sciences of Paramedicine taking your anatomy and physiology courses using virtual reality [and engage in over 700 hours of clinical experiences where you actually work side by side with nurses and doctors to treat patients and experience an extensive field internship in your senior year where you work with a Senior Paramedic who is a field instructor.
Our curriculum consists of many different areas students who wish to go on to Firefighter-Paramedic positions can take a minor in Fire Science. Students who want to stay in emergency medical services and move up into administration can achieve an undergraduate certificate and Emergency Medical Services Administration. Many of our students take prerequisites for graduate-level education programs such as Physician Assistant, Advanced Practitioner, Registered Nurse, and Emergency Management. We also have a 4+1 BS program. That's Paramedicine in Masters of Science in Healthcare Administration, in one program.
We have an exciting study abroad opportunity. We have a full campus in Prato, Italy. Our students are able to go for a full semester or for an accelerated program that runs in the summer. Past experiences had our students working directly with the Italian Fire Department in Prato, also doing clinical rotations in the ambulances in the city of Prato and in the hospital at Prado. Our faculty are experienced Paramedics and nurses that teach in the classroom and the hands-on labs. Students are assigned to an emergency department nurse during the hospital clinical rotations. Our program managers work with students to keep them on track for successful completion of the program requirements. And during field internships students work under the direction of a Paramedic field instructor approved by our medical director.
We have strong facilities and partnerships our Paramedicine program is supported by the resources of Hartford Healthcare. Students in the program get hands-on experience working in area ambulance services, students can become Firefighter-Paramedics or EMS Administrators within the studies in the minor. Two academic tracks within our Paramedicine program prepare the student to pursue postgraduate study in Nursing and Physician Assistant programs.
Our university community has an Enhanced Learning Community or an "ELC." You live in learn with other majors in the School of Health Sciences, build relationships, and explore career options as a Paramedic. New programs this year our Master's in Public Health, Master in Athletic Training, Doctorate in Health Sciences, and Doctorate in Athletic Training. Also a BS in Exercise Science. So welcome to Charger Nation. We hope that you enjoy your tour and that you'll join us here at the University of New Haven for our exciting Paramedicine program.
